"Artist as Mentor" Assignment: Research: Mentor Biography

Write 1-page-long typed report of at least 4 paragraphs

Must choose photographer from one of these links:

Do Not Cut & Paste From Website. Write Yourself From Info On Website. 

Use ONLY full sentences while answering as many of the following questions as possible:  Example: The name of my chosen photographer is ________ .

Paragraph #1- intro:
1)    What is the name of your chosen photographer?
2)    What country is he/she from?
3)    What are the titles of work/s you admire?
4)    Why did you choose that photographer? / Why do you like these photographs?

Paragraph #2-biography - summarize most important info about photographer's life:
1)    What year was your photographer born? If dead, what year did he/she die?
2)    If alive, how old is the photographer right now? If dead, how old would they be?
3)    Where does/ did your photographer live? What country, what state, what city? p
4)    How did they learn photography? (school, mentor with photographer, self-taught…)
5)    Do/did they work as a photographer as professionally as their only job? Or did they have another career as well? Or were they wealthy and didn’t need a job?

Paragraph #3 - photographs:
1)    (On “Masters-of-photography” home page, center, click purple link: “Photographer Summaries” to find this answer.) What are the main subjects that he/she photographs? (portraits, landscapes, objects, etc.)
2)    Describe in your own words your favorite photo of the two you chose by your "mentor" photographer and explain why you chose it.
3)    Is it a portrait, a landscape, an abstract, a nature study? Is it black-and-white, color? A close-up or far-away shot?
4)    What do you think the photographer wants you to think and/or feel when you look at the photo? What details (objects he or she chooses to include; lighting; viewing angle of the photographer when making the photo; etc. etc.) help to create that mood or feeling or idea?
5)    If you were to create a new title for that photo what would it be (something that would sum up what it’s about)?

Paragraph #4 - conclusion:
1)    Do a quotation search in Googlephotographer’s name quotation and try to find an interesting quote by that photographer to start or end your conclusion with.
2)    What were his/her main accomplishments? How many books are published on them? List a few. How many museums, galleries collect or show their work? Name some.
3)    Is there a single story from their life that sums up the essence of the person?
